Gianluca Savini, Picmal user Gianluca Savini

"It's a Mac-assed Mac App. Focused, customizable, flexible, well designed and super fast. 10+ times a day I need to convert a file for use on a website. Picmal makes that process a joy. My favorite conversion is taking a multipage PDF and converting each page to an individual image with one click (something even Preview can't do). "

Rob H, Picmal user Rob H

"I f* love this app. Just so you know. Keep building!"

Alessandro Bonini, Picmal user Alessandro Bonini

Adam L, Picmal user Adam L

"I love the app! I use it 4-5 days a week for audio and image conversion as I tag and add missing album artwork to my library of 70,000 songs. After that is done, I would like to try it out with my Blu-ray collection on Plex. I truly appreciate the hard work that goes into creating and frequently updating an app such as this. All the best!"

Trevor, Picmal user Trevor

"The program is very simple and practical, and its options are clear."

Abadi, Picmal user Abadi

"I use Picmal to convert images. It works perfectly. I can just leave the Picmal window open on my desktop. Whenever I want to convert an image, I drag the file onto the window and click “convert”—and seconds later, the converted file is in the appropriate folder with the suffix “converted.” It couldn't be easier or more hassle-free!"

Frequently asked questions

How much can Picmal shrink an audio file?

A lot, depending on the source. Lowering the bitrate (e.g. 320 kbps → 128 kbps) roughly halves an MP3; forcing mono on a voice recording halves it again; and converting an uncompressed WAV to MP3 or AAC can cut size by 80–90%.

Does compressing audio lose quality?

Lowering the bitrate of a lossy format trades some quality for size — at 192–320 kbps it's transparent for music, and 64–96 kbps is plenty for speech. For archival, compress to FLAC instead, which is lossless.

How do I make a voice memo or podcast smaller?

Turn on force mono and pick a speech-friendly bitrate (64–96 kbps). Voice recordings don't need stereo or high bitrates, so the file comes out a fraction of the size with no audible difference.

Can I control bitrate and sample rate?

Yes. Pick VBR/ABR/CBR mode and a target bitrate, set the sample rate (8 kHz up to 96 kHz) and bit depth (16/24/32-bit), and force mono when you don't need stereo.

Can I batch compress a whole folder of audio?

Yes. Drop multiple files or an entire folder into Picmal and compress them all with the same settings in one pass.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. All compression happens locally on your Mac — no uploads, no per-file limits. It's a one-time $15.99, not a subscription.
